The Cove launch 2016

    The Cove launch 2016

Australian Army personnel wherever they are across the country and around the world have a new professional development portal to link experts with wider Army to learn, debate and share ideas, it was announced in Canberra on 9 December 2016.

Deputy Chief of Army, Major General Rick Burr, DSC, AM, MVO, launched the ‘The Cove’ website (www.cove.org.au) during the Defence Entrepreneurs Forum at the Australian Defence College in Weston Creek.

The Cove focuses on the mastery of the Australian profession of arms on land and hopes to tap into an emerging educational theory called ‘connectivism’, which uses the Internet to enable experts to create communities of learning among like-minded people wherever they’re located.
The inaugural Defence Entrepreneurs Forum brought together junior commanders from across the Australian Defence Force to listen to innovative thinkers, showcase new ideas and connect with peers to create a network that challenges the status quo. The two-day forum included a keynote address by author Mr August Coles, panel discussions and a ‘shark tank’ style ideas forum.

Exercise Kowari 2016 – Crocodile Relocation

Exercise Kowari participants helped local authorities capture a 4.3 metre estuarine crocodile in the Northern Territory outback while on the military survival activity in August 2016. Members of the Australian Army, People’s Liberation Army, US Army and US Marines worked together to lift the 600-800 kilogram reptile onto a trailer after it was first tranquilised and secured by Northern Territory Parks and Wildlife rangers. The crocodile was caught in a waterhole trap just 50 metres from the participants camp, a day prior to them arriving. Exercise Kowari is a trilateral military survival exercise involving Australian, Chinese and United States personnel that aims to demonstrate cooperation and trust between the three nations.
